Further Development and Transfer of Competence Assessment Tools

Within the framework of the European Union’s Lifelong Learning Programme the Partnership of the FATCAT project is further developing the Competence Assessment Tools (CAT) (external link) previously created within another Leonardo da Vinci project. This system is capable of assessing competences and also competence development of team members and students. The original seven competence groups are to be extended within our project. The system available on the internet in more languages is free to use.
The further developed Competence Assessment Tools measure the competences important both in business and educational life. They are suitable for evaluating our own competences and for getting feedback from others. The evaluation happens by feedback tests, interviews and role plays. Our self-evaluation is not always objective, the image we see ourselves does not obviously match what others see us. We get feedback on what others think of us, what deficiencies our bosses, colleagues, employees or teachers and co-students noticed in relation to us. The feedback is concrete and straightforward. It names the discovered deficiencies helping us in development.
Naturally it is always us who decide on what to do to improve but the trigger for a change might be the CAT system.
In business and educational life the evaluation of colleagues and students usually happens on more levels. The assessment tools adapt to this feature and examine the personality from more viewpoints.
The employees are evaluated by a 180-degree feedback: apart from their self-evaluation their leader and colleagues evaluate them too.
In the education the teachers and classmates, co-students, do the evaluation. Teachers examine the attitude to learning from a professional approach while students may involve other aspects.
The results are graphically shown in a cobweb chart so we can immediately see the competences suggested for development.

Now the CAT has grown to FATCAT and is in a brand new format with up-to-date features and an easy-to-use interface: www.competenceassessment.eu (external link)
